Building Tactical Applications using Mashups
A Practical Guide to Mashup Design

This one day seminar covers the key technologies and concepts that drive the new breed of websites that seek to combine, or mash, an ever growing number of web content sources.  Because Mashups represent a natural progression from independent websites to more fully distributed applications/services, Mashup designers must plan the application carefully to avoid highly unmanageable solutions that don’t migrate well to SOA.  This course provides an understanding of the technologies used to build Mashups and how to design Mashups that maximize business benefit and that can evolve easily into more complex SOA solutions.

Objectives/Deliverables

  • Describe a Mashup and the factors driving the explosion of these websites

  • Survey Web 2.0 access technologies used such as Ajax, SOAP, and REST

  • Examine key providers of content such as Google, Amazon, and Flickr

  • Review a simple Mashup employing content from several sources

  • Explain how to isolate content access to ensure greater reliability and configurability of solutions

Target Audience

  • Developers that need a quick overview of these technologies to rapidly build solutions

  • IT staff that need to understand the implications of such solutions on system uptime and reliability

Execution

  • Workshop: One day
