Eric Helliwell Eric J. Helliwell, the principal of Scalable Designs, focuses on building highly scalable and available n-tier Web architectures. Eric has more than 15 years of experience constructing object-oriented software on Microsoft platforms, working in both architectural and executive management roles. Eric joined I/SRG in 2003 to work cooperatively with the other faculty members helping to ensure the readiness of today's software professionals through training and consulting solutions. Mr. Helliwell formed Scalable Designs in 2000 to assist clients in meeting the challenge of building and deploying highly scalable software solutions. His consulting and training practices concentrate on assisting development teams transition to large-scale web application development from more traditional application paradigms such as stand-alone and client-server. Eric writes articles on these and related topics for ASPToday. Prior to starting Scalable Designs, Eric was the Director of Software Development at OneSource Information Services, Inc. He had direct responsibility for the delivery of the OneSource Business Browser web-based product, which launched in 1998. His responsibilities included senior management planning and the directions of new initiatives that culminated in the company's IPO in 1999. Eric graduated from the University of Lowell with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He joined Wang Laboratories to work on office automation technologies and the application of the X.400 and X.500 ISO standards. Following his Wang tenure, he performed numerous consulting engagements helping create software for the insurance industry and online consumer service.
